Held on the traditional lands of the Awabakal People, the Living Smart Festival is one of Australia’s largest community sustainability events, with a mission to encourage people to learn about and embrace everyday sustainability practices. Lake Macquarie’s largest free community event, Living Smart Festival, now in its 14th year is set to take place on Saturday 20 September at Speers Point Park. This flagship event for our region attracts more than 10,000 attendees, pending weather conditions.

Held on the traditional lands of the Awabakal People, the Living Smart Festival is a day of celebrating all things sustainability. Located on the shores of Lake Macquarie at Speers Point Park, the festival is all about engaging, learning and connecting with all aspects of sustainability, from environmental to cultural.

The relaxed festival vibe encourages visitors to engage with local artists, taste local produce from a variety of food trucks, and interact with many of the activities provided for the event from the local community.

The 2025 event, which runs from 9am-3pm Saturday 20 September, is headlined by Dr Karl Kruszelnicki. Renowned for spreading the good word of science for more than 30 years, and the author of 48 books, Dr Karl is passionate about climate change and will be sharing his wisdom at this year's Living Smart Festival. In addition, the day will host free workshops, demonstrations, market stalls and presentations.
